Our Plan
2026–2027 School Year
Our leadership team worked to build a plan that is centered on giving students the best possible opportunity to be involved in athletics.
First, we have decided that for the 2026–2027 school year, Cedar Rapids Prep will support participation at students’ home schools for any sports we do not currently offer, consistent with Iowa House File 2754. This is most impactful to our high school students, where we will start with a limited number of sports.
We made this decision based on a few key points:
- We worked to find a local school to build a partnership with where we could share all of our high school athletic programs together, but we were unable to finalize a suitable agreement.
- Allowing our students to compete through their neighborhood school creates opportunities and more flexibility for families.
- This option also allows eligible 8th grade students to participate in high school athletics through their local school.
- It preserves the greatest flexibility as we grow our own athletic offerings and explore future partnerships.
You can find a helpful How To Guide for contacting your home district here.
Please note that this decision applies only to sports we do not currently offer — students will continue participating in Cedar Rapids Prep-sponsored athletics whenever those opportunities exist.
Long Term Vision
We also want to be transparent with our families: this is only the beginning. Our long-term vision is to build a full, competitive athletic program at Cedar Rapids Prep — including JV and Varsity teams that represent our school on the field, the court, and the track. We remain committed to expanding athletics at Cedar Rapids Prep, since families want more opportunities to compete together as Bison, and we share that vision.
This decision was made thoughtfully, with significant input, and with the long-term success of our students at the heart of every conversation. Thank you for your partnership and for believing in what we are building together at Cedar Rapids Prep.

Bison E.D.G.E.
To support every athlete regardless of where they compete, Cedar Rapids Prep is launching Bison E.D.G.E. —Excellence. Development. Growth. Execution. — our dedicated athletic development program built around the belief that great athletes are built before the game ever starts. E.D.G.E. focuses on strength, conditioning, sport-specific skills, and the mental and emotional side of competition. It is also where our athletes begin building the relationships, habits, and team culture that will be the foundation for our future varsity teams.
High School Athletics
In Year One, we’re proud to offer Cross Country in the fall and Track & Field in the spring — the perfect launching point for our program. These sports build endurance, discipline, and mental toughness, and teach that the only competition that matters is the one with yourself. Every student is welcome to compete from day one, regardless of experience.

Middle School Athletics
Middle school families can expect the same commitment and support that defined Year One. As we respond to enrollment numbers and legislative changes, we’re thoughtfully adjusting our offerings to give every student the best possible experience. Under the new legislation, if CRP doesn’t offer a sport, students may participate with their home district. Here’s what we’re offering this year.

Families Can Have Both
Cedar Rapids Prep families don’t have to choose between a great education and great extracurriculars — your student gets both. At Cedar Rapids Prep, we believe our extracurricular programs are some of the most powerful tools we have for developing the whole student. The lessons learned — resilience, accountability, how to handle adversity, how to show up for others — are the same ones that shape character and build the foundation students carry with them as they pursue their long-term goals. We are just getting started, and the best is still ahead. Year 2 is going to be a strong one.
