👋 Meet Michael, our Founding Math Teacher at Cedar Rapids Prep!

📚 With over 15 years of teaching experience, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge from both local and international classrooms. He’s taught 6–12 grade math in Iowa and abroad, including 7 years at the International School of Belgrade, where he led rigorous IB Middle Years and Diploma math programs.

✏️ He’s also served as a 6–12 Math Lead for Cedar Rapids middle and high schools, supporting curriculum, instruction, and assessment across the district.

❤️ Michael is passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences for every student, whether they`re in a high-needs school or an academically accelerated environment. He holds a master’s degree in differentiated learning and instruction and believes every student can succeed with the right support.

💙 His favorite thing about Cedar Rapids? The people and deep family roots in the southwest side, where his family once farmed on the old Wieneke land.

👋 Meet Abby, Dean of Operations at Cedar Rapids Prep!

Abby brings 10 years of experience teaching in Iowa’s public schools. She taught middle and high school social studies for 8 years in the Wilton Community School District and the Cedar Rapids Community School District. For the past 2 years, she’s been teaching Business Leadership Studies at Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy.

Abby has held a variety of leadership roles. She developed Iowa’s first business course offerings for middle school and coordinated over 30 field experiences to help students explore potential career options alongside professionals in our community.

📖 Favorite book: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.
“Outliers is about the ‘10,000-Hour Rule.’ The theory is that you have to practice a skill for 10,000 hours to become an expert. The book was given to me when I finished my student teaching. I’ve continued to use the 10,000 hour reminder when I (or my students) get frustrated. Resilience is such an important life skill!”
